When you think of a “Florida centric” weekend getaway you’re probably wanting to hear the sound of ocean waves and great weather, right? Look no further than New Smyrna Beach for hometown hospitality.
I put together a weekend getaway guide for you that highlights where to stay, play, and dine when you visit New Smyrna Beach!
Where to stay
Enjoy Beachside living like no other while staying at Inn on the Avenue. Here is where you can have direct access to food and retail shops along Flagler Avenue, all within walking distance.
The Inn on the Avenue is located in the heart of beachside and is actually the only bed and breakfast inns on the barrier island.
Built in 2013, with 6 guest bedrooms, a master suite, and a balcony that gives great views of Flagler Ave.
During my visit, I stayed in the Coral room.
When you arrive you’ll see “Alfred” who has a basket filled with info that locals and tourists alike can read through and enjoy.
The inn also serves Gourmet breakfast daily from their kitchen beginning at 8:30-9:00 a.m. Monday through Friday and 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
You can dine at the table or request to have the meal brought to your home for an additional charge.
Where to play

Flagler Avenue sits in the Beachside District of New Smyrna Beach and has tons of shopping, art, and restaurants for you to choose from.
Along Flagler Avenue you’ll see locally-owned boutiques, galleries, and more.
You don’t have to feel rushed during your time here as there is free street parking on Flagler Avenue.
Smyrna Dunes Park is hidden on the northernmost tip of New Smyrna Beach’s barrier island and is referred to as “The Dog Beach.” by locals.
That’s right! Dogs are allowed in Smyrna Dunes Park, as long as they are leashed. Along with the dog beach, Symrna dunes Park is home to tons of wildlife, ecosystems, and nature trails!
Canal Street sits in the historic district of Downtown New Smyrna Beach and is a must visit during your weekend getaway in town!
Here is where you’ll find specialty shops, unique eateries, art galleries, historic buildings, and free parking along Canal Street and nearby roads.
Where to dine
- Third Wave Cafe & Wine Bar
During our visit, my sister and I ordered their shrimp and grits and spinach artichoke dip! I am originally from the Carolina’s so I can be a tough one to impress when it comes to shrimp and grits dishes, but the Third Wave Cafe & Wine Bar team did not disappoint, the recipe is delicious!
