About Aubrey

Hi, I’m Aubrey!

As a little girl I played dress up wearing my mom’s heels and used her hair brush as a microphone!

I’m a millennial journalist with a passion for storytelling. In my career I’ve covered everything from coastal storms to celebrity news. I love capturing special moments through video and photo.

My love for travel, fashion, and self care lead me to create this little space on the internet, So Southern Belle.

When I’m not blogging you can find me at the beach, booking a flight, searching for a fashion sale, or working hard on the job.

FAQ:

WHAT IS YOUR “DAY” JOB?

I’m a digital anchor for a local TV station. With today’s audience being driven to digital, I have the pleasure of highlighting all things trending from viral news to the latest social media star!

WHAT DID YOU STUDY IN COLLEGE?

I received a broadcast journalism degree from Claflin University.  In college interned with local TV and radio station in the South Carolina TV news market along with completing a summer internship with ABC’s Good Morning America before graduation.

WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR CONFIDENCE?

This is such a great question. My mom would say I was confident as a kid, she could take me to a department store and never lose sight of me, because I was somewhere singing or dancing in a mirror. I feel at my best when I am on stage, sharing a story on camera, or able to interact with people.

I took a huge leap of faith and decided to compete in a state pageant for Miss USA and felt amazing because I talked myself out of competing for years thinking I wasn’t “enough”.

My passion for female empowerment and motivational speaking comes from experiences like this where I overcame self doubt and negative self talk.

IF YOU HAD ONE PIECE OF ADVICE FOR YOUNG ADULTS, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

My best advice would be “do not let the internet rush you”. I know your friends are posting their highs and bidding their lows when it comes to social media. But the one thing I notice as a millennial and from conversation with colleagues is that you have to move at your own pace, find your space of happy in this ever evolving world, and be joyful through your journey. Rome (and Beyonce) weren’t built in a day : D
